A journey that could have been the best experience of my life…

A journey that could have been the best experience of my life…

The sixth session of the 27th round of Congress 60 workshops was held in Salehi branch on Saturday, March 13th, 2021, at 4:00 PM by traveler Mahdi as the guest speaker and traveler Mojtaba as the master of ceremony, and traveler Majid as the secretary. The agenda was "How to use the holidays."

A summary of the guest speaker’s speech:

First, I thank the master of ceremony and my honorable guide for allowing me to experience this position.

I would also love to send my gratitude to the beloved companions for making the ceremony much warmer. The Haft-sin table they have arranged looks refreshing and beautiful. I congratulate you on the Persian new year in advance and I wish you all a superb year.

This time of the year, as usual, the agenda is “How to spend the holidays.” One of the most brilliant features of Congress 60 is the fact that it gives us a detailed plan for every little matter in life.

My main issue when I consumed drugs was that I had lost my discipline and the power to plan for my personal and work life so that our travels had no plan whatsoever. It led to a point where it even affected my family’s routine. For example, we assumed that we had to hit the road at 1:00 a.m. whenever we wanted to travel somewhere. However, now thanks to the instructions of Congress60, I have a specific plan for my life. In addition, I have become able to choose the appropriate time whenever I am to go somewhere so that I can enjoy the path and get the best out of it.

I have learnt in Congress60 that it is necessary to have a scheme and not to make decisions with haste. For instance, if I know I have a trip ahead, I start planning some months before, try to estimate the expenses, start saving, check up my car, and so on.

As travelers, we have all these experiences of not enjoying the journey ever. Well life itself serves as a journey and we do our best to enjoy it and get the full benefit from it.

I would also like to tell you a memory regarding this agenda. Those days when I used to consume, I once turned a journey which could have been the best one in my whole life into the worst and bitterest journey ever.

My father, who was a religious man, told me if I wanted to quit using I had to go to Mecca.

This wrong view made me expect something irrational from God and ask Him as the genie of the lamp to help me quit addiction within a day or a week. Regardless of the promise I had broken and the fact that I had ruined my biochemical system, I expected to be cured by making a journey.

When we arrived at the airport, they told us not to bring even a painkiller! At that time, I was using methadone and I had my wife bring them with her.

When we were seated she told me she had thrown away all the pills. It felt like my whole world collapsed.

The journey that could have been the best experience of my life turned into the worst one.

In Mecca, I did not enjoy staying at the best hotels at all. Even I was unable to eat anything.

I was getting an IV most of the days and was taking painkillers one after another. Days went by painfully and I know it was God’s will to experience the situation and realize the reality and boundaries and not to expect a miracle.

I learnt that to solve any problems I should start moving forward and then God will send us help.

I hope we can enjoy and make the most out of every moment of our lives and the journeys we embark upon.
