Agenda: Tobacco Products (Cigarettes, Hookah, Nass, Pipe, Vape)
Mr. Hossein Dezhakam was born in 1949 and graduated in Electronic Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology. As a CEO, factory owner, and expert in advanced telecommunication system repairs, he achieved liberation and definitive addiction cure from a 17-year drug addiction in December 1997 with his innovative method. This DST method inspired by fasting and the holy month of Ramadan, after an 11-month period of tapering off opium (the gradual reduction of opium), Mr. Dezhakam reached liberation from addiction.
Two years later, on September 22, 1999, he held the first meeting of Congress 60. Subsequently, by designing the scientific and administrative structures of Congress 60, he transformed this organization into one of the strongest non-governmental organizations in the field of addiction cure.
Mr. Dezhakam was entangled by another problem and that was smoking cigarettes. Mr. Dezhakam used to smoke a lot: two or three packs of cigarettes per day. He always had a cigarette in his hand. He didn’t buy cigarettes by the pack, but rather several cartons at a time. There were always several cartons of cigarettes in his room.
The only change we witnessed during those years was that Mr. Dezhakam switched from regular cigarettes to slim Esse ones. Of course, in the 2000s, most members of Congress 60 smoked. This included individuals within the legions, first and second travellers, and even the guides themselves.
After the workshops, the hall would get so full of smoke that it was difficult to see each other. A powerful exhaust fan had been placed on the roof to suck the smoke out, but it still wasn’t enough to reduce the [great] volume of smoke. Imagine 200 or more people lighting cigarettes simultaneously in a 140-square-meter hall.
At the parks, every [male] Congress 60 member had a cigarette in their hands. After the swim, everyone getting out of the water had their cigarettes lit before even leaving the pool complex.
The above mentioned summary is a brief description of the smoking period in Congress 60 in the 2000s. Many people asked Mr. Dezhakam why, despite the remarkable success in addiction cure, he wasn’t addressing the problem of smoking. He would reply, “because all the researchers have done so much research on the harms of smoking, but has anyone researched its benefits?”
And so it went. All the members kept smoking…until January 2011. One Sunday, when Mr. Dezhakam was present in the Academy building, a meth addict who was under delusion entered the building. While Mr. Dezhakam was having a brief and unpleasant conversation with him, he had a heart attack.
Upon receiving a call from female travelers to Tehran’s emergency services, paramedics arrived within minutes and transported him to the hospital. Doctors stated that his heart had been functioning at its lowest possible level for several minutes, and that he was in critical condition with a very low chance of recovery.
By the grace of God, Mr. Dezhakam returned to life and was admitted to the ICU. Mr. Dezhakam was hospitalized for approximately ten days and nights, and the anxieties of that time will never be forgotten by the members of Congress 60.
He recounts: “I regained consciousness in the ICU and had an intense craving for a cigarette. In order to find one, I disconnected all the medical attachments and got out of bed, but suddenly fell down. The nurses rushed over and asked, “What are you doing?”
Mr. Dezhakam replied, “I want to smoke a cigarette.”
They said, “You’re in the CCU! You cannot smoke here, especially in this situation.” It was at that very moment that something crossed his mind—perhaps an inspiration and suggestion, again, like during Ramadan 1996. Mr. Dezhakam thought to himself, “Now that I can’t smoke, I will supply my body’s need for nicotine orally.”
He called Babak Farnaghi to get him a pack of nicotine gum and bring it to the hospital, and he began using it. The doctors told him that his stroke was solely due to smoking cigarettes and that, if he wanted to live, he had to quit.
After being discharged from the hospital, he continued using the nicotine gum. After a while, he announced that he was embarking on a journey to quit smoking and was seeking volunteers to assist him in this endeavor.
Around 30 people volunteered to begin their journey to quit smoking and use nicotine gum under Mr. Dezhakam’s guidance. Interestingly, his journey to quit smoking, just like his first journey to treat drug addiction started in February 2012 and continued through December 5th, 2012—exactly 14 years later [number 14 is renowned in Congress 60 and considered to be sacred, Congress 60 has 14 valleys to reach recovery and wellbeing].
Mr. Dezhakam’s liberation day, both for addiction to drugs and for quitting smoking, fell on December 4th. On Wednesday, December 4th, 2012, he announced at the meeting that he would use his last piece of nicotine gum that day, marking the end of the journey. A wave of joy and elation swept through Congress 60, and many Congress 60 members volunteered for smoking cessation.
Interestingly, prior to his heart attack, Mr. William White had inquired why Mr. Dezhakam smoked. Mr. Dezhakam responded with the same answer: that nobody had researched the benefits of smoking.
Following his heart attack and the start of his smoking cessation journey, Mr. William White became a strong supporter, encouraging him to continue his path. In recognition of Mr. William’s support and enthusiasm for his rehabilitation from cigarettes, Mr. Dezhakam named the cigarettes legion “William Legion,” a gesture that greatly pleased Mr. William. Since then, 14 years have passed. As of today, June 1, 2025, a total of 13,181 Congress 60 members have successfully quit smoking using the DST method and nicotine gum.
We do not intend to discuss the harms of smoking in this article. We are all well aware of them, to the extent that the worldwide death toll from smoking cigarettes is 7.1 times greater than that from consuming all types of illicit drugs. This indicates that nicotine is considered an anti-‘X’ far more lethal and dangerous than various drugs.
Like drugs, cigarettes cross the blood-brain barrier and replace critical neurotransmitters, including acetylcholine. Cigarettes are clearly and definitively physically addictive, disrupting the X system and causing withdrawal symptoms and physiological effects in smokers when they abstain.
Today, cigarette cure in Congress 60 is easily achievable. Nearly 600 smoking cessation guides have set up legions within Congress 60, and approximately 7,000 individuals are currently on their journey to quit nicotine. Since cigarettes are considered the anti-X, or destroyer of the X system, first travelers who do not join the William White Legion will experience cigarettes acting as a strong interference in triggering the X system. However, first travelers who simultaneously begin their smoking cessation journey alongside their initial journey find that their X system is restored and functions optimally with the cessation of cigarettes, allowing them to fully enjoy their journey.
This year, according to Mr. Dezhakam, the weekly agenda has been renamed from ‘Cigarettes’ to ‘Tobacco Products’ (cigarettes, hookahs, nass, pipes, and vapes). The reason for this change is that these materials can cross the blood-brain barrier. They are all considered anti- and destructive to the X system, and in many cases, are even more harmful and dangerous than cigarettes. Hookahs, pipes, and nass are significantly more destructive than cigarettes, and the idea that one can use hookahs or pipes as a substitute for cigarettes is a completely misguided notion; in fact, they are more dangerous. Nass, made by grinding tobacco and mixing it with lime, is a highly dangerous substance, especially for the mouth tissues and teeth.
Due to the revelation of the dangerous side effects of vapes (or electronic cigarettes) in recent years, restrictions are being applied to their use in many countries that were pioneers in their promotion. E-cigarettes, which use a chemical process to produce vapor, carry significant health risks.
These risks include respiratory problems, mouth and throat irritation, cardiac complications, negative effects on the brain, and exposure to harmful chemical substances. While rare, explosions and burns caused by vape batteries have also occurred. Most importantly, vapes can severely disrupt the body’s natural opioid system (formerly referred to as the ‘X system’). We highly recommend that you attend Mr. Dezhakam’s speech on Wednesday, June 7th, for more information.
