Dear Hossein,
Editing the “How are you?” book is progressing nicely. The manuscript is in quite good shape so there is very little change I am making to it. I am doing some formatting change suggestions and making only very minor work changes and hope to be able to complete it within the next two to three weeks. I read the full manuscript through twice before starting the editing and think it is quite suitable for international readers. Most international readers will read this as if it is the script of a one act play and I think fine it quite interesting and thought provoking. I will be happy to draft an introduction to the book once I have completed the editing of the manuscript. I will send a draft of the manuscript with the introduction once both are completed. It was quite exciting to see photos of the printed copies of the English version of the Little Book on Addiction Recovery. I look forward to receiving a signed copy from you. It will make a wonderful addition to my library and I will make sure it will eventually be placed in the Addiction Archives in Illinois where it will be available to future historians and scholars. The two-week summer holidays at Congress 60 is fitting after the highly successful running competition, the shawl ceremonies, and other recent activities. All of these activities offer living proof of the transformative power of effective treatment and a bold statement that recovery is a living reality in the lives of tens of thousands of Congress 60 members. I share your hope that we will see more such events in the future that will challenge public conceptions about addiction treatment and recovery. The comparative study between NA and Congress 60 members could be an important contribution to illuminating different pathways to recovery. I am familiar with most NA studies and this would be the first such study involving NA members that examined gene expression and immunity system changes. How long will it take to get the 1000 samples needed for this study? Do keep me updated on your progress on this study. I hope you and your family are enjoying the summer. Here is the U.S., records are being broken for the highest ever recorded temperatures and we are seeing many storms and related flooding due to climate change. Rita and I continue our daily walks but must do them very early in the mornings before the heat and humidity get too high. We worry that the extreme heat will bring another very busy hurricane season to our shores here in Florida. There is still much construction under way locally to repair the damage from last year’s hurricanes.
Please extend my warmest regards to your family and to all members of Congress 60.
