Dear Hossein,  

I am glad to hear that you are well and that members of Congress 60 have escaped the worst consequences of COVID-19.  That is a remarkable feat given your 100,000 members.

Rita and I did get our second COVID vaccination and experienced no major side-effects from it. The total numbers of vaccinations in the U.S. are finally increasing and we were fortunate to get ours as early as we did. There continues to be a high demand for the vaccines and scheduling difficulties but hopefully these will get worked out in the coming months.

Congratulation on the purchase of the new building that will be dedicated to companion activities. This is an important milestone in the history of Congress 60.

I have given considerable thought to how we might publish the 14 articles book in English. When we considered how best to publish the Fourteen Valleys book in English, we decided to do it as a PDF that could be posted on my website and that I could then disseminate at no cost to addiction recovery-focused organizations in the U.S. and other English-speaking countries. That seemed to work out quite well. There continue to be many views and downloads of this book from my website and many people have commented to me on their appreciation of the book and its messages of hope.

I think we could consider doing a similar process with our 14 articles book. Does this sound like a workable plan to you?  If corrected text with an appropriate cover can be completed and sent to me, I can arrange posting of the book, and with your permission, also give other recovery advocacy organizations permission to repost the book on their website or provide links to it. And I can do a blog on the availability of the book as a way of introducing its availability.

Although I would love to see a printed version of the book sometime in the future, doing the book as a freely available e-book would avoid the legal, financial, and distribution complexities of attempting a printed book.  Do let me know your thoughts on this. I think both of our priorities are to get this information widely disseminated to countries beyond Iran.

I think the wide dissemination of the book can achieve many things, including sharing the amazing story of Congress 60 and its unique approach to addiction treatment and recovery. Also of import will be legitimizing the use of OT as a medication in the treatment of addiction and how that medication is best nested within the kind of vibrant recovery culture you have created within Congress 60. I think it will also call attention to your earlier written works.

We have talked in our communication over the years about the important of legacy and assuring our work can continue after we are gone. I have been working on a plan for transferring maintenance of my website to Chestnut Health Systems, the organization I helped found in 1973 and which I worked at for so many years. My hope is that my writings and your writings now available on my website will be assured continued availability should I die or become too impaired to maintain the website. Our written words will be an important part of our legacy and we must assure their preservation, not as monuments to our own egos, but as testament to the potential for addicted people to transform their lives and become assets to their families and communities.
