Dear Hossein,
I and pleased that you found the information I sent you on OT in the U.S. of interest. Much of that was new information to me as well. I am surprised and disappointed that there has been so little use if OT in the treatment of addiction in the U.S. I think I am going to follow-up by asking some of the long-tenured doctors in methadone maintenance here if they are aware of any colleagues who have ever used OT as an alternative to methadone or buprenorphine.
Best wishes on getting your articles on blood cancer accepted for conference presentations. Exposure of these results is important as are collaborations with universities such as Bristol and getting your early research results published in medical and scientific journals. I am in awe of how rapidly your researches are progressing. I look forward to the day you stand before a conference in the U.S. to share your work and a day we can once again stand face to face as brothers in the fight against addiction.
I must apologize for my rather depressing last communication. I did not intend to use our correspondence as therapy but that’s what it was. I was then overwhelmed by my daughters cancer diagnosis and my wife’s recent health challenges as well as my own loss of energy. Good news has followed. Alisha’s cancer treatment is proceeding very well with manageable side effects following her first two chemo treatments and Rita is doing much better. As for myself, it turns out my lethargy resulted from low blood counts related to my phlebotomy procedures. That schedule has been reduced to every other month and I am now feeling like my old self. I do appreciate your concern for my health, and I did mistakenly feel I was just getting old and running out of steam. I am now back writing every morning, feeling well again, and ready to get back to our work together.
My blog on our book will be posted on my website next Thursday. It will go out as an announcement to the 6,000+ individuals and organizations who subscribe to my website and will be reposted by numerous recovery community organizations in various countries as well as posted of various social media outlets. I hope that will bring many readers to the book and to the work of Congress 60.
And thank you for your detailed responses to the questions I have sent about the use of guides and co-guides within Congress 60. My plan is to turn that information into a blog that will appear in the form of an interview with you. Having reviewed the responses you have sent so far, I think this is going to be of great interest to many people in the addictions field. Here in the U.S. the use of such roles is suddenly growing in what you have been using and refining in Congress 60 since your earliest days. That is a remarkable innovation.
I have been working on writing future blogs this past week. One of my areas of continued interest is how we create space in local communities in which recovery can flourish. In other words, how could the support offering within Congress 60 be extended into the community itself so that recovery is welcomed and supported outside of Congress 60 by other citizens and institutions, e.g., medical institutions, educational institutions, business and industry, religious institutions, etc. I would be interested in your thoughts on that question. I think it is important to support the recoveries of individuals and families but equally important to help create a physical and cultural space in communities in which recovery from addiction is celebrated and the individual in recovery is welcomed back into the human family.
Friends and Brothers Forever,
Bill
