باعث دلگرمی است که این تعداد زیاد از اعضای کنگره ۶۰ می‌توانند هر هفته جمع شوند و به ورزش بپردازند. تقریباً تمامی گروه‌های ریکاوری در اینجا به‌صورت آنلاین فعالیت می‌کنند.

I hope this communication finds you continuing to experience good health and safety. 

The COVID pandemic continues to rage here in the United States; here in Florida we are experiencing more than 11,000 new cases per day. The only bright news on this front is that the vaccine will be available this week and my wife and I are hoping to get our shots as soon as possible.  In the meantime, we continue to isolate as much as is possible. I fear with all the holiday travel here that the numbers are going to skyrocket in the coming weeks.

It warms my heart to hear that so many Congress 60 members are able to gather each week for exercise and mutual support. Nearly all mutual recovery support here continues to be in online platforms.

Thank you for the updated information on the types of Congress 60 guides.  We have often talked about the health challenges of people in recovery and Congress 60 is a leader in promoting health through smoking cessation and good nutrition.

The issue of medication in recovery, including sleeping and pain medication, is an important one and I look forward to hearing you discuss this in more detail. The issue of how to best manage acute and chronic pain is an important issue here, particularly among older men and women in recovery. Such pain and its related medications can be a source of addiction recurrence if it is not effectively managed.  

Yes, do keep me posted on your studies of the DST method in the treatment of other conditions.

Your recent weight loss success inspired me to emulate similar efforts. I am just getting started the last two months but have lost nearly 10 pounds so far and feel much better.

I think Afghanistan is a good choice to consider in the expansion of Congress 60 given its proximity and the severity of its addiction problems. As for the U.S., I will have to explore any regulatory obstacles that might exist in the use of opium tincture in the treatment of addiction.

It is the first of a five-part series of blogs that will be posted over the next month. Like you, I have turned my personal mission into something of a family mission.

Now that the series of blogs with Alisha is completed, I will be continuing to explore the effects of COVID 19 on addiction treatment and recovery mutual aid organizations and on people in recovery. I am very concerned about people seeking and in recovery who do not presently have the kind of support that Congress 60 offers. I think it is difficult for newcomers to recovery to engage with an online format when they have not had prior in-person support, and we are seeing some people in recovery not making the transition to online support. As we’ve discussed, there is also the issue of people in recovery being more vulnerable to COVID-19 infection and related complications due to co-occurring health conditions. That is one of numerous reasons that what you are doing to improve the health of Congress 60 members is so important.

We are about to pass into a new year and another year of our continued friendship and collaborations. Looking back, I am so pleased you chose to introduce yourself to me that day in London so many years ago. May the blessing of the universe continue to nurture our friendship and our work.
