از آخرین پیام شما سپاسگزارم. خوشحالم که حالتان خوب است و از شنیدن اینکه آزمایشها با دکتر آروین بر روی تریاک، هروئین، الکل، آمفتامینها و فنتانیل در حال پیشرفت است، بسیار خرسند شدم. یافتههای اولیهای که به آنها اشاره کردهاید بسیار مهماند و در صورت تأیید توسط مطالعات بعدی بر روی الکل و هروئین، افزودهای ارزشمند به ادبیات علمی حوزهٔ اعتیاد خواهند بود. اشتراک اثرات میان این مواد، این فرضیه را تقویت میکند که شاید یک رویکرد واحد درمانی بتواند در مورد همهٔ این انواع اعتیاد مؤثر واقع شود.
موفقیتهای اولیهٔ کتاب شما با عنوان «کاهش وزن و ساختار بدن» را صمیمانه تبریک میگویم. اخیراً در ایالات متحده علاقهٔ فزایندهای به یکپارچهسازی پزشکی عمومی و پزشکی اعتیاد به وجود آمده است؛ رویکردی که گاهی از آن با عنوان «پزشکی سبک زندگی» یا «روانپزشکی سبک زندگی» یاد میشود و بهعنوان یک نوآوری مهم تلقی میگردد. از این رو جالب توجه است که کنگره ۶۰ از همان آغاز فعالیت خود، با تمرکز بر سلامت همهجانبهٔ انسان و توجه به ورزش و فعالیت بدنی، ترک سیگار، تغذیه، و نیز ابعاد ذهنی، جسمی و معنوی، عملاً چنین رویکردی را به کار گرفته است. کنگره ۶۰ شایستهٔ قدردانی برای این نوآوریهاست، اما مهمتر از آن، جامعهٔ جهانی اعتیاد نیاز دارد از تجربهٔ سالیان طولانی کنگره ۶۰ بهرهمند شود. امیدوارم همکاریهای ما به تحقق این هدف کمک کند.
کار من بر روی تکنگاشتی دربارهٔ رشد و شکوفایی بهعنوان یکی از پیامدهای بالقوهٔ بهبودی از اعتیاد، رو به اتمام است. برنامهام این است که آن را برای دانلود رایگان منتشر کنم تا دسترسی به آن برای همگان ممکن باشد و سپس چند مقالهٔ کوتاهتر مرتبط با این موضوع برای انتشار علمی تهیه کنم. گمان میکنم این اثر یکی از مهمترین کارهای من خواهد بود؛ اثری که میتواند سطح انتظارات و افقهای ممکن را برای افراد و خانوادههایی که در جستوجوی بهبودی هستند ارتقا دهد و همچنین بدبینی رایج در میان برخی متخصصان نسبت به امکان بهبودی پایدار و بلندمدت از اعتیاد را به چالش بکشد.

Thank you for your most recent communication. I am pleased that you are well and to hear that the experiments with Dr. Arvin on opium, heroin, alcohol, amphetamines, and fentanyl are progressing. The preliminary findings you note are important and will be a significant addition to the addictions’ literature, particularly if they are confirmed by the subsequent studies on alcohol and heroin. The shared effects across these substances does lend credence to the proposition that a singular approach to treatment may be effective across all of these types of addiction.
Congratulations on the early success of your book Weight Loss and the Structure of the Body. There is growing interest recently in the U.S. on integrating primary medicine and addiction medicine into what is sometimes called lifestyle medicine or lifestyle psychiatry. This is seen as quite an innovation. It is thus interesting the Congress 60 has been practicing this since its inception—with its focus on whole person health and its work on sport/exercise, smoking cessation, nutrition, and its mind/body/spirit focus. Congress 60 deserved credit for such innovations but more importantly the global addictions field needs to capitalize on Congress 60’s experience over these many years. That’s what I hope our collaborations will help achieve.
My work on the monograph on growth and flourishing as a potential outcome of addiction recovery is nearing completion. My plan is to post it for free download to make it widely accessible and then do some shorter articles related to this subject for publication. I think it will be one of my more important works that will help raise the bar of expectations and possibilities for individuals and families seeking recovery and to also counter the pessimism among many professional helpers about the prospects of long-term addiction recovery.
