آیا کنگره ۶۰ در بکار گیری جهان‌بینی، فلسفه، درمان و ریکاوری در ایران بی‌همتاست؟

خوشحالم که می‌شنوم سرماخوردگی شما خوب شده است. من و ریتا هفته گذشته واکسن آنفولانزا و چند واکسن ضروری دیگر زدیم.

تبریک بابت رسیدن به هدف وزنی خود. من هم پیشرفت داشته‌ام اما هنوز به هدف نرسیده‌ام. چاقی مشکل بزرگی در ایالات‌متحده محسوب می‌شود و باعث کاهش طول عمر افراد زیادی می‌شود. صنعت فست فود و صنعت دارویی در کاهش طول عمر در ایالات‌متحده مؤثر بوده‌اند.

قبول دارم که بسیاری از ایده‌های ما هنوز به‌طور گسترده پذیرفته نشده است اما نوشته‌های ما یک راهنما برای آینده درمان و ریکاوری اعتیاد خواهد بود. بابت تفکراتتان درباره درمان اعتیاد سپاسگزارم.

در بعضی جوامع در ایالات‌متحده اختلاف نظری میان گروه‌های AA یا NA با ارگان‌های محلی درمان و ریکاوری وجود دارد. بعضی از این اختلافات تنها رقابت یا تفاوت در فلسفه کاری است. سؤال من درباره تفاوت میان ارگانهایی که پروتکل مخصوصی برای درمان اعتیاد دارند و گروه‌های ریکاوری که از طریق کمک فرد در ریکاوری به فرد معتاد کار می‌کنند بود.

ما در اینجا گروه‌های ریکاوری سکولار، معنوی و دینی مختلف و زیادی داریم که بر مبنای کمک گروه‌های همتا کار می‌کنند. ارگان‌های ریکاوری دیگری نیز داریم که فعالیت می‌کنند تا سیاست مربوط به مخدر را تغییر دهند یا خدمات ریکاوری مانند خانه‌های ریکاوری با هزینه کم و یا مربی ریکاوری را ارائه کنند. مرز میان این ارگان‌ها بد تعریف شده است و اختلاف نظرهایی پدید می‌آورد. آیا در ایران هم این موضوع وجود دارد؟

موضوع دیگری که مورد علاقه من است نقش جهان‌بینی در ریکاوری است. شما به صراحت این نقش را در کنگره ۶۰ تعریف کرده‌اید، اما در آمریکا این موضوع توجه زیادی دریافت نکرده است و بیشتر تمرکز یا روی مداخلات پزشکی (دارویی) است و یا روی مشاوره روانشناسی است. هیچکدام از این دو روی مسئله وسیع‌تر تغییر شخصیت/ارزش‌ها و معنای زندگی و هدف ریکاوری کار نمی‌کنند. آیا کنگره ۶۰ در بکار گیری جهان‌بینی، فلسفه، درمان و ریکاوری در ایران بی‌همتاست؟

هوای تهران در این وقت سال چگونه است؟ بسیاری از مناطق ایالات‌متحده در حال تجربه پاییز هستند و درختان رنگ‌های زیبایی به خود می‌گیرند، اما در فلوریدا تغییرات فصلی کم است و تنها کم شدن درجه هوا و رطوبت را تجربه می‌کنیم. من و ریتا دلمان برای رنگ‌های پاییز که وقتی در قسمت شمالی بودیم مشاهده می‌کردیم تنگ‌شده است اما زمستان‌های گرم‌تر اینجا را دوست داریم. در حال حاضر، میزان گرمای فلوریدا رکورد شکسته است و من حدس می‌زنم این مسئله حاصل گرم شدن کره زمین باشد.

هرسال فصل گرمای زیاد طولانی و طولانی‌تر می‌شود. می‌ترسم که اعمال و رویکردهای ما آینده سیاره‌مان را به خطر بی اندازد. شاید افرادی مثل ما که از اعتیاد فرار کرده‌ایم بتوانیم دیدگاه‌هایی درباره اهمیت و آسیب‌پذیر بودن زندگی ارائه دهیم.

Dear Hossein,

I am glad to hear you have recovered from the flu. Rita and I got our flu shots last week and a few other needed vaccinations.

Congratulations on reaching your weight goal. I am making progress but am not there yet. Obesity is a major problem in the U.S. and contributes to lower life expectancy for far too many people. Our fast food industries and pharmaceutical industries have contribute to the fact that the overall life expectancy in the U.S. is actually declining.

I agree that many of our ideas are not yet widely accepted but that our writings will provide a future guide for addiction treatment and recovery. I appreciate your latest reflections on the treatment of addiction.

In some U.S. communities, there is conflict between AA or NA groups and local treatment and recovery support organizations. Some of this is just competition or differences in philosophy. My question was particularly the difference between organizations that provide a particular treatment protocol and those that just provide mutual recovery support from peers in recovery. Here we also have lots of different secular, spiritual, and religious recovery mutual aid groups and then we have other recovery organizations that work to change drug policy or provide recovery support services such as recovery housing or peer-based recovery coaching. The boundary between these organizations is very ill-defined and is a source of some conflict. I was wondering if that was also the case in Iran.

Another subject of current interest to me is that of the role of worldview in recovery. You have eloquently described this role in Congress 60, but here in the U.S. this is given little attention as most of the focus is on either medical interventions (medications) or on psychological counseling, with neither focusing on the broader issues of character/values transformation and life meaning and purpose in recovery. Is Congress 60 unique in Iran in its inclusion for worldview in its philosophy and treatment and recovery?

What is the weather like in Tehran this time of year? Many parts of the U.S. are experiencing fall at present with all the trees turning beautiful colors, but here in Florida we have few such changes other than a lowering of temperature and humidity. Rita and I miss the fall colors we witnessed when we lived in the north but do enjoy the warmer winters here. At present, Florida is experiencing record-breaking high temperatures from what I suspect is the progressive effects of global warming. Each year the season of high heat gets longer and longer. I fear our past actions and policies pose a threat to the future of our planet. Perhaps those of us who have escaped addiction could offer some perspectives on the fragileness and preciousness of life.
