Communications of Hossein and Bill (Reply to Hossein - Oct 18, 2018)

Oct 18,2018

Dear Hossein,

Thank you for your most recent communication.  I enjoy our continuing discussions and updates on your life and the activities of Congress 60. And I am pleased these communications are shared with all members of Congress 60.

You are very wise in the arrangement you have made to publish books in Iran.  The publishing industry is undergoing many changes across the globe, particularly with the advent of e-book publishing and print on demand books.  I have loved books my whole life and never thought I would make the transition to reading books on an e-device, but I must confess how convenient such devices are. Now I read both hardbacks and some e-books.

I agree about the value of our friendship.  My hope is that we have set an example of what is possible when people rise above all the artificial barriers that so often divide people. We have formed an unbreakable bond based on mutual respect, affection, and a shared mission of spreading recovery from addiction throughout the world. The divisions within my country and within the world wear heavily on my heart some days, but you are right in our need to maintain our focus on the work to which we are so committed.  That is how we will do our part to heal the world.

Next week I am meeting with people who are filming a documentary on recovery activities in Africa. It is good to see our work spreading to other countries.

I am continuing work on my recovery blogs—any of which you are welcome to translate for members of Congress 60, but will soon take a break from them to finish work launching a photo gallery on my website that conveys through images the history of addiction treatment and recovery in America and in other countries.  I will discuss with you later the possibility of including a photo section in Congress 60 and recovery in Iran.

Our weather here in Southern Florida continues to by unusually hot and humid for this time of year. There are still many in my country who deny the reality of climate change and the role humans play in it, but the scientific evidence for such change seems overwhelming and we are seeing here rising temperatures and an increase in extreme weather events. Rita and I continue to walk each day, but must do so earlier in the day to avoid the high heat.

I will look forward to your communication about D. Sap.
My warm regards to everyone in Congress 60.

Friends and brothers forever,
Bill
