Mr. Dezhakam's Full Speech in the Eleventh International Congress of Addiction Knowledge

Mr. Dezhakam's Full Speech in the Eleventh International Congress of Addiction Knowledge

Let's scatter flowers and cast wine into goblets,

Let's rip the ceiling of the heavens and create a new design,
If sorrow raises an army to shed the lovers' blood,
The butler and I will build each other up and overthrow its foundations. (Hafez)

I am grateful to the Congress administrators, especially Dr. Roshanpazhooh, Dr, Joghataei and Dr. Mokri. Holding such conferences takes a lot of energy and time. To establish an NGO, three main factors must be met: first of all, they must have the required knowledge in that area, if they do not have this knowledge, they are not able to work! The second point is that they must have the work-force: training the work-force is very important. And the third factor is that an NGO must have money.

Congress60 believes that addiction involves the three sides of body, psyche and worldview. It means that an addict's body has been destroyed (as a result of drug consumption), their psyche is also hurt and their worldview (which is defined as their thoughts and reflections) is damaged too. The important point is to avoid stating general things; i.e. we have to determine the exact place which has been destroyed as a result of addiction. We have to specify which part of physiology (body), worldview and psyche has been damaged. Congress60 defines addiction as "chronic replacement" meaning that the inner and natural opiates of body are replaced by outer addictive drugs. The biochemical balance of the body including neurotransmitters, dopamine, serotonin, encephalin, endorphin, and acetylcholine's balance has been disturbed. The balance of these substances is smashed as a result of addiction.

When a drug-abuser gets a cold-turkey, they are not able to sleep well at night? Why is it so? Because when a normal person wants to sleep, three substances are secreted in their blood including: serotonin, adrenalin and acetylcholine so that a person can sleep at night. An addict who has quitting drugs cold-turkey cannot sleep for six months. Why? Because, their (physiological) system does not work properly. Addicts have marital problems, why? Because, their system does not work properly. A breakdown has occurred in the physiological system. Where has been damaged? Brain! The blood capillaries and the Blood-Brain Barrier provide blood for the brain. Addictive drugs and alcohol are solved in lipid; therefore, the addictive drugs can pass the blood-brain barrier and after a while, they replace the (natural) opioid substances of the brain. In Congress60's view, when this replacement occurs, the person becomes addicted; it means that the person is completely dependent on the drugs. This happens to the physiology of the body.

The worldview side refers to the thoughts and reflections. It is very important to us how a person views the world. By "worldview", we do not mean having a special thinking. Worldview includes whatever one thinks about the world, their family, themselves, and their city. Whatever one thinks about themselves or about the external world is called "worldview". This worldview is very important.

Having a nihilistic view toward the world, individuals may say, “There is no time like the present. We are supposed to be buried and to be the food of ants and grasshopper.rs, so let us destroy it by using alcohol, hashish and opium. Why do we let snakes and scorpions do it? Even if such people have not been addicted yet, they will normally become addicts in the future. This is a significant view and thought.

Regarding worldview, Congress60 has suggested 14 valleys, like 12-step program of Narcotics Anonymous, to rebuild its structure; the first reads: All structures begin with contemplation; without contemplation, all that exist will decline. It means that contemplation makes everything.

An addict is trapped in the thinking “there is no time like the present” by which s/he spends moments and days. Thus, their way of thinking has been included in the 14 valleys.

There are no strange things in the 14 valleys; we have something like that in mysticism as: Attar passed seven valleys of Love; however, we are stuttering in the first step. Or Jami’s eight valleys including: wish, morality refinement, intoxication and perplexity, being filled by the love of the Lord and to die for that love are the last stages of loving the Lord (Fana Fe-Allah and Baqa Be-Allah) and also belief in a single God, which is allocated to his own career.

Human being’s past attributes don’t remain the same because he is constantly changing.

Maybe I am a scientist today but tomorrow I will become an inmate. Maybe I am rich today but tomorrow I will not. I may be a national player today but tomorrow I will be an addict. Thus, my attributes can change because I am changing, the universe is changing, environment is changing, society is changing, everything is changing and nothing is motionless.

Therefore, if someone is addicted, there is no reason to remain addict to his death.

I should clarify Congress60’s view which suggests addiction to any substances is curable in every stage, whether it is crack, cocaine, alcohol or meth; even if it is used by injection for 30 years by a 70 or 80-year old person, it can be cured from the viewpoint of Congress60.
