The fourth session of 60th round of the Academy Branch Workshops was held on 20 September , 2017 at 10 a.m., this meeting was held by Master Dezhakam as the master and Mr. Amir as the secretary and the weekly agenda was "The Problem of Addiction".
Hello friends, I am Hossein, a traveler. I am fine and hope you are keeping well. We have passed an educational year and we start a new educational year in September. Since we have not the next solar calendar in hand, the programme of the next solar year will be determined later. The topic of some agendas has changed and today is the first session of the educational year in Congress60 which begins with "the problem of addiction".
Previously, I told you to participate in the international Congress of addiction. On last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Congress60's members participated in the in the international Congress of addiction. We had a panel with social workers. We also had a powerful panel with the addiction scientists including Dr. Mokri, Tehran University's professors and the authorities of the Social Welfare Organization. We had another panel with a friend of mine for addiction and spirituality. Congress60's members and their children are required to study in any field they are interested in and write academic articles on the treatment of addiction.
Sometimes, some unreal issues are categorized as a scientific issue, for instance, we have no knowledge about addiction yet, because it is not considered as a disease and it is still included in disorders. A disease has a history, pathophysiology and pathobiology. Then, its treatment and protocols of treatment are specified. However, for addiction, there are no such things and addiction has not been pathologized, for example, bipolar and Schizophrenia are included in disorders. Disorders are covered by psychiatrists. In the past, M.S. and Alzheimer were considered as disorder, after being pathologized, they were categorised as disease. Addiction has some factors but it has not been pathologized yet.
The lowest type of studies is the descriptive ones. Descriptive studies have been done in the field of addiction: how many males are addicted? How many females? When does addiction start? At which age? How many addicts do get divorced? How many are illiterate or literate? However, it is not determined which part of the body has been damaged.
The prizes allocated to the best authors in the international Congress of addiction were of low value. For instance, the first author was given a gold quarter. I proposed that in next year, we would pay 1470$ for the best five articles. Of course, we ourselves scientifically evaluate the quality of the manuscripts. Can we cure an addict to ice with thousands of articles about addiction to ice?
I was talking to the dean of Iran University. He asked us to devote money to research studies and I accepted. We are not anti-science. We like to cooperate with universities and physicians. We are now working with 150 clinics and 300 physicians.
We have piloted 1000 with cooperation of university of Tehran, maybe it is the greatest research in Iran which has been done with Opium Tincture (OT), lasting three years. The results were brilliant, but they were not published. Why were not the findings broadcasted? The findings of the DST method were significant and had deep effect on the world; however, I do not know why they were not published. It was a scientific study which was examined by the professors and standards of the university. We ourselves will complete this plan. We are programming for the next 20 and 25 years that our members write articles and can set people free from addiction.
They now say that we kiss the hand of the person who makes a person liberate from addiction (hand-kissing is a sign of respect in Iranian culture). This is completely wrong. It is also wrong to say we accept whatever method proposed for the treatment of addiction. It is completely wrong to say we accept all the methods. It is also incorrect to say an addict can select their own treatment method according to their own job and situation. Is it possible to say I kiss the hands of those who help a person with heart problems? Is it possible to say that I want my heart to be operated this way, because I am a clerk? The patient is never ever allowed to determine their heart-operation method. The right path has been determined and it has only and only one way. You cannot reach the destination through many ways. If you want to reach Qom, you have only one option and one path.
If you claim that all the ways are correct, you open up a window so that all people can come and meddle in. For the treatment of addiction, you must be either an expert or you have to be experienced in this regard. Of course, all the drug-abusers cannot do it, they must have acquired knowledge. Some take the addicts to rehab addiction camps and beat the addicts to death, should we respect these people and kiss their hands? Addicts must be helped only through a scientific and right method so that they get liberated from addiction.
Therefore, all the ways must be examined and in some fields, all people must not be allowed to interfere. Why are not all the people allowed to interfere with heart operations? Because heart diseases are determined and the knowledge of their treatment is available; therefore, the heart experts do not allow others to come and interfere. This is not the case with addiction. Since there is no knowledge for addiction, they say addiction is not curable.
I hope Congress60's members do research studies and write articles (about addiction). We are in a stage that we should carry out research studies and move in accord with academic frameworks. It is not useful if we treat millions of people, unless they are written based on academic frameworks. I hope we can do this and pave the way for the establishment of Congress60's Academy. This academy must be established for many diseases.
We are seeking for a place for the central branch of Congress60 and we are doing our best to find a place for that, I hope we will give you good news soon.
This week's agenda is the problem of addiction. The first thing we should know is the problem of addiction so that we can treat addiction. The problem of addiction is a completely scientific issue which was first proposed in 1999 in Sistan and Baloochestan University. In Congress6, we emphasize respect to the elderly. When some elder individuals (professors) and I are present in a meeting, you are not allowed to raise your hand, ask a question and speak. We must learn not to speak, unless we are allowed to do so.
Another point is that last week we participated the International Congress of Addiction, I thank all the members. We should attend the scientific forums because they are the field of action. Since we attended the International Congress of addiction, we could not appreciate the work of Academy branch's (which is one of the greatest branches of Congress60) agents, assistants and the border guards last week; therefore we will appreciate these hardworking members in Taleqani Park on this Friday at 10 a.m. I invite you all to attend this celebration and bring envelops (of money) with yourselves to thank them.
