Communications of Hossein and Bill (Reply to Hossein - Mar 16, 2017)

Mar 16, 2017

Dear Hossein,

What a wonderful idea!  I will suggest this to Face and Voices of Recovery and some of the other recovery community organizations here in the U.S. and in the U.K. to see what kind of interest I can generate on this.  I think a worldwide annual tree planting ritual would be a wonderful way to make amends and to celebrate the personal and family recovery experience.

Thanks you for your detailed responses to my questions regarding the relationship between Congress 60 and NA in Iran.  Your responses are very informative and will be helpful on the NA study about which I am providing guidance.

A new review on the use of tincture of opium in the treatment of opioid addiction has just been published in the journal Addiction.  I have requested a copy of it and will share it with you as soon as I get it.  It will confirm for you that most studies of OT are on detoxification or use of OT as a maintenance alternative to methadone or buprenorphine and that no studies have evaluating the unique DST model used within Congress 60.  This review confirms our need to proceed with research on Congress 60’s DST method, which I hope will come to fruition through our UK collaborations.

I have completed work on the memoir of my work in the addictions field to date and my wife Rita is editing and proofing the manuscript. Hopefully, it will go to press later this year.  I’ve tried to include in this memoir many of the lessons, including the painful lessons, I have learned in this work over the last half century.  This, in part, grew out of our discussions of our need to write at this stage of our careers and mentor a new generation of recovery advocacy leaders.

Spring approaches in the U.S., but we have just had a major late winter blizzard in the Northeast.  Friends have been sending me photos of their cars buried in snow.  I wish you and your family safe travel and enjoyment during your coming holidays.

Friends and Brothers Forever,
Bill
