The tenth session of the twelfth round of Physician’s Legion was hold by Dr. Reza as the guest speaker, Master Dezhakam as the master of ceremony and Ms Qazal as the secretary with the agenda “the Companion Celebration” and “The Missing Part CD” in Taleqani Park, on December 16, 2016 at 8 o’clock.
Dr. Reza:
I congratulate all the companions in congress 60 on “The Companion’s Week”. Master Dezhakam says, “All the links between atoms, molecules, and particles of the universe are made by the sense.” Even the sense has an important role in their obvious form. Animals have the sense, too. The sense and feeling they have towards their children is something special, for example, they meet their children’s physiological needs and then leave them in the environment.
But the sense has a broad meaning in human life. There are strong emotional relationships among human beings which cannot simply be fragmented. If we lose one of our relatives in an accident, it will have a terrible impact on us
Emotional attachments have been stronger among Iranians than west nations especially Americans. Nowadays in some countries grandparents and parents are taken to homes for the aged (retirement homes) which seems to be a sign for lack of emotional connections.
We believe that life is a travel from a source to a destination. In Congress 60 this travel is defined as moving from darkness to light, from consuming drugs to liberation, self-analysis and theosophy (to know God). Some people come to Congress 60 with one of their family members. Master Dezakam mentioned that at first he had no special plans for the families but in order to avoiding any irregularities they planned an integrated program and held similar workshops for the families.
A companion accompanying a traveler needs instructions, too. Although at first a companion thinks s/he must learn how to help her/his traveler, s/he thinks to work on her/his drawbacks and weak points after a while.
Master Dezhakam mentions two groups of people, the left and right fellowships, who are different from each other in some cases. The right fellowships are following the truth and justice while the left ones move against justice and right path.
It is also mentioned in “the missing part” CD that the right fellowships have a more balanced system of endorphin than the left fellowships.
Master Dezhakam says that Congress 60’s system is free for everyone and all the people serving for free and without any expectations while there are critical views toward their services seeing just the empty half of glass.
Dr. Ardeshir:
First of all let’s see what the companions’ feeling is toward the travelers. We must take it into consideration that addiction is a multilateral illness, i.e. economical, social, ideological and mental. To cure an addict we need to consider all these parameters in order to avoid other problems happening.
Dr. Mehran:
The thought of the congress 60’s founder made the families play their roles as wings for flying. This indicates congress 60’s power to remove the obstacles and use them in favor of itself. Congress 60 has assigned a week for travelers to appreciate their companions.
Dr. Ahmad:
The most important distinction between Congress 60 and other NGOs I’ve ever seen is the presence of companions beside travelers. I wondered how they can attend a common workshop. After a while I found out that they receive the same instructions simultaneously. Professor White said, “Family is an issue which is paid much attention meticulously in recovery.
Dr. Masoud:
Mr. Dezhakam said, “The addicts’ families disturbed the process of their treatment so we decided to gather them together and gradually a new process formed for them, too.
In the book "The dependency” translated by Mr. Masoumian, it is mentioned that there exists a dependency and correlation between a patient and his/her relatives. The relatives, especially wives and mothers, have basically supportive behavior towards the patients. When an addict quits using drugs suddenly, his/her relatives wonders what their role is. They may fuss about his/her actions unconsciously and s/he may tend to use drugs again.
Companions in Congress 60 came to have effects on the travelers. One of the most effective ways to help the patients is the instructions related to the companions. Afterwards other NGOs copied congress 60’s method and make the families take part in the treatment process but they didn’t succeed.
Regarding “the Missing Part CD”, we as human beings believe that everything that benefits us is consistent with justice. It is just as we legitimize our anti-value behavior and contradict everything against us.
Dr. Atousa:
We all know that companions have great influence on travelers and this is highly emphasized in Congress 60. In our clinics we try to instruct the families in order to help the patients. We tell them not to worry about the patients; in fact we try to help them reform their behavior. On the other hand there are some families who misuse their travelers.
Dr. Fereshta:
When we search the roots of addiction, we see that an addict has been harmed from different aspects such as economical, emotional, mental and so on. The important factor which has caused an addict to use drugs is his/her family that hadn’t supported him in certain time. Congress 60 has always highlighted the role of a companion not less than that of a traveler. When an individual faces a problem, his/her family wants to support him/her but they don’t know how and they may make big mistakes. Entering Congress 60, they learn how to behave towards the traveler who wants to step in the right direction. In fact they act as their wings to fly and some of their false behavior gets modified.
Master Dezhakam:
I came to the conclusion that addiction is knowledge by itself. The significant field which physicians, psychiatrics and philosophers should take step in order to know addiction better. We could claim that we have known addiction if we cured just one meth, heroin or narcotic addict provided s/he is physiologically and mentally in a good balance.
As it is said in Congress 60, the first step is to know what we don’t know. If humans believe in their ignorance, they eventually find out the answers. But if they say we are knowledgeable, they definitely experience so many problems.
Companions are those who have never experienced addiction and help narcotic abusers to be free from addiction. S/he can be a physician or one of the family members, but above all s/he must be paired with him/her. A companion is one who acts as a shield, i.e. s/he should move shoulder to shoulder with a traveler.
Since the companions didn’t know the knowledge of congress 60, they went under instruction. However NA group has had a group including the families since the past, their method is completely different. Companions play a major role and in our opinion an addict speaks a language different from a companion. In congress 60 we try to make them speak the same language.
During the Companion Week, travelers should give presents (preferably money and gold) to their companions as far as they can in order to appreciate them. Some people have forgotten giving presents to each other and they may just congratulate verbally on their birthday (if they remember). During this week all the members talk about the companions and by this they value them very highly because they have suffered much and take steps shoulder to shoulder with travelers.
At first, companions come for their travelers’ treatment but after a while they realize that they are sick, too. The travelers use different substances (opium, heroin, alcohol,…) and don’t know what is happening around him but the families are under mental pressure.
One more point is that so far 5 physicians have succeeded to become co-guides and receive “shaal”. I believe that they are professors in addiction because they know all the details of addiction. Those who pass short-term courses on addiction just have general knowledge of it and are not so different from ordinary people.
