Dr. Afshar: "Mr. Dezhakam is not rich but I believe that he is the richest man in Iran. If he wants to do a great work whichneeds huge financial support, not only C60 members but also their relatives will support him".

The full transcription of Dr. Afshar speech at the ceremony of unveiling the Book "14 articles about addiction"

In the name of the Lord of heaven and earth.

The Lord who is with us always, the Great Mastermind who is in every bit of universe and us.

I know Mr. Dezhakam from 2000 up to now. I remember I had a responsibility in the Prisons Organization at that time and I met Mr. Dezhakam in Anti-Narcotics headquarters’ meetings for the first time and I got familiar with his great ideas. At that time, I noticed that he concerns not only body/physiology and psychology but also worldview and by reading the book "crossing the zone 60 degrees below zero", I understood a new event was happening in addiction and using drugs. In those days, the priority  was to control the sanitary consequences of using drugs especially in prisons. Unfortunately, HIV and hepatitis were epidemic and we did not believe that one day, an idea like this – Congress60 idea about addiction- creates a great family with ten thousands of members and now, we just see a small part of this family in this hall. There is a bigger population out of this hall and there is a big family in all parts of our country that is growing and propagating continuously.

We endeavored to spread and to expand this idea. Maybe one of my important works for Congress60 in headquarters was to invite the Interior Minister and General secretory of Drug Control Organization to gather together in this complex recently, where Mr. Dezhakam and other friends sit and speak in legions. It was very amazing for the General Secretory that an interface and conciliation have made between physicians and this idea, our friends work together based on the scientific view [of Congress] and executive documents.

Another significant subject about Congress60 is that Congress60 does not work to feather its own nest. Saadi – one of Iranian poets – says: “The aim of a farmer is to harvest crops [wheat or other seeds]; however, as a result of his attempts, some chaff or straw will also remain for the farmer”.

Mr. Dezhakam is not rich but I believe that he is the richest man in Iran. If he wants to do a great work which needs huge financial support, not only C60 members but also their relatives will support him. Because of this matter, the branches of Congress60 are increasing day by day without any dependence and need for governmental aids. As the result of this view, some of our NGOs are very successful and I contemplate the most successful of which is Congress60. Unfortunately, because of prevalence of addiction and using drugs in our country, the pecuniary view to addiction is common in some parts. Then, what is the difference between NGOs which are just looking for their profits and drug smugglers? Drug smugglers just want to gain profit and money through addicts! If the therapist's view is merely like his, for sure there is not much difference between a therapist and a drug smuggler; and if our addiction treatment system is based on money, it will remain needy. The type of view in Congress60 and other similar NGOs causes needlessness, independence, and the feel of elevation. Reaching this great status requires  not only the presence of those liberated from addiction, but also the support of all Iranians.

And all of them appreciate such activities.

Our duty in drug Control Headquarter is to cooperate with Mr. Dezhakam and his friends and kiss on the hands that try to save individuals [i.e. thank them] and the number [of liberations] is not important. The Lord says:" and whoever saves one’s life, it is as if he had saved mankind entirely"; it is enough that only one individual becomes prosperous in order that we become prosperous. I am sure that Mr. Dezhakam has become prosperous by this holy work and I hope he prays for us in order that we can participate in this holy movement too.

I think it was not an ordinary unveiling book ceremony. Today, in this ceremony, I learned as much as a scientific congress. I thank for this style and this discipline which make us happy and satisfied and I would like to express special thanks to Mr. Dezhakam again on behalf of  you.
