ارزش‌هایی که از آن‌ها نام بردید مانند تحمل، احترام، همدردی، گوش کردن بدون قضاوت، تواضع، صداقت، بخشش، سپاسگزاری و خدمت به نظر میرسد که بافت متصل‌کننده تمامی راه‌های ریکاوری سراسر جهان به یکدیگر است. امروز صبح یک مطلب روی بلاگ پست کردم که پیشنهادم این بود که دنیا و ایالات‌متحده به این ارزش‌ها نیاز دارد با توجه به‌تمامی تفاوت‌های ایدئولوژیکی که کشورها و جهان را تهدید می‌کند.

خوشحال خواهم شد که یک نسخه از عشق ۱۴ وادی برای ریکاوری را به دان کویهیس بدهم. فکر کنم این هدیه شما برای او بسیار باارزش باشد. او یکی از بزرگان حرکت ریکاوری در ایالات‌متحده است و خیلی مرد خردمندی است. دانشمندان به کنفرانس ما می‌آیند تا یافته‌های جدید خود را با ما مطرح کنند و دان می‌آید تا داستان‌هایش از سفر به قبایل محلی (سرخپوستان) شمال آمریکا را برای ما تعریف کند.

خوشحالم که‌میشنوم کار ترجمه طلوع ریکاوری آغازشده است. امیدوارم که کلماتم برای اعضای کنگره ۶۰ و دیگرانی در ایران که به دنبال دانش ریکاوری و رشد درمان اعتیاد در آمریکاهستند شادی‌آفرین باشد.

آیا جلسات شما با دکتر نوروزی درباره متد DST ادامه دارد؟ امیدوارم که گروه تحقیقمان بازبینی ایشان و جمع‌بندی استفاده از TO در درمان اعتیاد ایران را دریافت کند. در نامه‌های پیشین گفته بودید که جلسات با او به خوبی پیش می‌رود. نتایج مطالعه NA در آمریکا و ایران که با دکتر گالانتر کار می‌کردم در یک مجله معتبر اعتیاد برای چاپ ارائه شد اما هنوز جوابی دریافت نکرده‌ایم که آیا برای چاپ پذیرفته‌شده یا خیر.

از شنیدن درباره کار لژیون‌های مالی خوشحالم. موضوع مسائل مالی برای گروه‌های ریکاوری بسیار مهم است و من تا حد بسیار زیادی معتقدم و گفته‌ام که این گروه‌ها باید از لحاظ مالی به خود متکی باشند و به منابع مالی بیرون از خود اتکا نکنند چراکه مأموریت و متدهای آنان تحت تأثیر قرار خواهد گرفت. لژیون‌های مالی شما یک برنامه عقلانی برای رسیدن به این هدف را مهیا کرده‌اند.

تعدادی عکس از راهپیمایی‌های روزانه با ریتا برای شما می‌فرستم. همان‌طور که میدانید، ما در یک آپارتمان کوچک واقع در یک بندرگاه در جنوب غربی فلوریدا ساکن هستیم. قدم زدن در صبح ما را در مقابل حیات‌وحش قرار می‌دهد و پرنده‌ها، دلفین‌ها، تمساح‌ها، گاو دریایی و لاکپشتهای بزرگ در کانال پشت جایی که ما زندگی می‌کنیم حضور دارند. همچنین می‌بینید که قایق‌ها در ساحل حضور دارند ما در یکی از ساختمان‌های بزرگی که‌پشت عکس می‌بینید زندگی می‌کنیم.

چون ما زمستان سخت در این ناحیه نداریم درختان نخل و گل‌های گرمسیری داریم که به زیبایی محلی که در آن قدم می‌زنیم می‌افزایند. این زیبایی باعث می‌شود گرمای شدید تابستان و خطرات طوفان در برخی ماه‌های سال را کمتر حس کنیم. آخرین عکس یکی از غروب‌ها است- آپارتمان ما رو به غرب است لذا زیباترین غروب‌های روی آب را می‌توانیم نگاه کنیم. ما خیلی خوش‌شانس بودیم که توانستیم در زمان رکود بازار مسکن این خانه را بگیریم وگرنه خیلی گران‌تر از چیزی بود که‌میتوانستیم پرداخت کنیم. اینجا جای آرامی برای من است تا بتوانم فکر کنم و بنویسم.

Dear Hossein,

The values you note in your last email--tolerance, respect, compassion, listening without judging, humility, honesty, forgiveness, gratitude, and service--seem to be the connecting tissue across diverse pathways of addiction recovery around the world. I posted a blog this morning suggesting the need for such values in the U.S. and the world at present, given all the ideological divisions that threaten our countries and the world.

I will be delighted to pass along a copy of Love, Fourteen Valleys for Recovery to Don Coyhis. I think he will treasure this gift from you. He is one of the elders of our recovery advocacy movement here in the U.S. and is a very wise man.  Scientists come to our conferences to share their latest data; Don comes to share stories he learned from his travels to Native American tribes in North America.

It is a pleasure to hear that the translation of Recovery Rising has begun. I hope my words will bring joy to many members of Congress 60 and to others in Iran seeking knowledge about recovery and how the treatment of addiction has evolved in the U.S.

Are your meetings with Dr. Nouruzi about the DST method continuing? I am hoping our research group will get a revised paper from him updating his summary of the use of TO in the treatment of addiction in Iran.  It sounded in our last communication about this that your meetings with him were going well.  The final results of the study of NA in the U.S. and Iran that I worked on with Dr. Marc Galanter have been submitted to one of the major addiction journals, but we have not yet heard if our paper has been accepted for publication.

I am pleased to hear of the work of the financial legions.  The issue of financial sustainability is a critical one for recovery community organizations and I have advocated that to the greatest extent possible these communities should be financially self-sustaining and not dependent on outside sources of funding that can alter their mission and methods.  Your financial legions have provided a sound plan to achieve that.

Yes, do keep me posted on your website.  It has taken me years to complete work on mine and I have only one section left to complete which will take most of the next year.

Do share more about D. Sap when you can. I find this very interesting.

I am enclosing a few photos with this email from the walks Rita and I take each morning.  As you know, we live in a small apartment in a marina community in Southwest Florida.  Our walk each morning takes us by many wildlife--birds, dolphins, manatees, alligators, large turtles along the canal behind where we live.  You can also see the boats nested within the marina; we live in one of the large buildings you see in the background.  Because we have no harsh winters here, we have palm trees and tropical flowers that flourish which adds to the beauty we see on our walks. That beauty helps offset the summer's very intense heat and the regular threat of hurricanes during several months each year. The last photo is of one of our sunsets--our apartment faces west so we get the most beautiful sunsets on the water here. We were quite fortunate to find this location during a time when the housing market was very depressed; otherwise we would not have been able to afford it. It provides a very quiet place for me to think and write.

 Please extend my warmest greetings to your family and to all members of Congress 60.
