از همکارانم در چستنات خواهم پرسید که آیا امکان همکاری با کنگره ۶۰ میتواند در آینده مهیا شود یا خیر. کار اخیرمان را با آنها در میان خواهم گذاشت و خواهم گفت که مشتاق هستید این نوع تحقیق را ادامه بدهید. فکر میکنم در طولانی مدت علاقه برای چنین کاری موجود باشد اما به علت وجود تعداد زیاد تحقیقات که در انتظار هستند و باید در ماه های جاری انجام شوند، تاخیر در این مسئله وجود خواهد داشت.
با آنها چک خواهم کرد و خواهم خواست حواسشان به موقعیت برای انجام تحقیق در آینده باشد و ما را خبر کنند. آنچه ایده آل است این خواهد بود که اجازه تحقیق از NIDA گرفته شود که شامل جمع آوری اطلاعات در آمریکا و ایران باشد. مطمئن نیستم که چه موانع سیاسی یا اجرایی در راه چنین همکاری موجود خواهد بود.
فکر کنم به زمان نیاز داریم. هرچقدر تعداد نمونه های تحقیقاتی که شما در ایران با مراکز آکادمیک انجام داده باشید بیشتر باشد، احتمال انجام تحقیقات مشترک بین المللی بیشتر خواهد بود. در هفته های آتی شما را در جریان اطلاعاتی که از همکارانم در چست نات به دست بیاورم قرار خواهم داد.
درباره پیشنهادتان در مورد تحقیق مربوط به NA فکر خواهم کرد. در حال حاضر بر روی تحقیقی که اعضای NA در آمریکا و ایران را مقایسه میکند با مارک گالانتر از یکی از دانشگاه های اینجا در حال همکاری هستم. آن تحقیق تا تابستان تکمیل میشود و زمان خالی برای انجام پروژه های جدید به وجود خواهد آمد.
همچنین یک ویرایش جدید درباره تاریخچه مشاوره اعتیاد در آمریکا در دست انجام دارم که آن هم تابستان به اتمام میرسد. بعد از این پروژه ها، وقت بیشتری برای کار مان خواهیم داشت.
بهار در جنوب غربی فلوریدا در حال پایان است و روزهایی با دمای بالای ۸۰S را تجربه میکنیم. تابستان به زودی از راه خواهد رسید. در حالی که مسن تر میشوم، به نظر آگاه تر از سرعت عبور زمان شده ام.

Dear Hossein,
I will begin by exploring with my colleagues at Chestnut Health Systems whether they foresee any research opportunities through which they could collaborate with Congress 60. I will share with them our past work together and your eagerness to pursue this type of research. I think there could be some long-term interest in this but work could be delayed by the number of new research grants they have received this year that must be implemented in the coming months. I will check with them and ask them to remain on the lookout for opportunities for future collaborations. What would be ideal would be a research grant from NIDA that would involve data collection in both the U.S. and Iran. I am not sure at present what political or administrative obstacles might stand in the way of such collaboration. I think we must take the long view on this. The more examples we can provide of research you have done in Iran in collaboration with your research and academic centers, the better would be the prospects of an international collaboration. I will let you know in the coming weeks the information I get from my Chestnut colleagues.
I will give some thought to your proposal about the NA-related research. I am currently working on a project comparing NA membership in the U.S. and Iran in collaboration with Dr. Marc Galanter from one of our universities. That study should be complete this summer and free up some of my time to consider new projects. I am also finishing a new edition of The History of Addiction Counseling in the United States that will be completed this summer. After these projects, I should have more time to consider some of our continued work together.
Spring is passing in Southwest Florida and we are beginning to see days with temperatures in the upper 80s. Summer will arrive soon. As I get older, I seem to be much more aware of the spped at which time unfolds.
Thank you for your best wishes for Rita's approaching eye surgeries. We are looking forward to a positive outcome.
